Introduction

The issue of water purification has been a dominant in the minds of environmentalists all over the globe for the past several years. There are several problems associated with the science of purifying water, one that is often overlooked is the effect on the ecosystem of the large drain pipes that water purification plants require. There are three main shortcomings with the intake of water at desalination plants in this regard; impingement, entrainment, and entrapment. Each will be further discussed and an ultimate solution will be proposed to best encompass all three of the defects.
